- Good performance/second review Review by Frank Z Man
48 volts times 30 amps yields 1440 watts of input power.
Estimating power output pulling up a grade at 550 ft-lbs/hp, the motor puts out about 1HP. Its enough power but I would not like anything less. The power is not an overkill but it runs nicely.
I mostly ride slow and peddle a bit. The electric will craw when needed. I craw through a park and on the side walk. A gas engine will not run slow. At times going up a grade, crossing a local bridge, and across town through some red lights I must floor it to keep up with the traffic. It will do about 20 miles per hour under this condition. On my Treck in high gear and high range my feet are going around about as fast as possible at his speed. A head wind slows it down a bit. I must keep up with traffic, at pinch points, for about a mile along my 16 mile trip. I don't like to go fast, however, I have no where to duck out at these places. I never go on a high speed main road. With the battery mounted over the rear wheel the bike has a high center of gravity and all of the weight is over the rear tire. It can become unstable at speeds of around 20 MPH. One time it did begin to oscillate back and forth at high speed. I think the battery looks cool over the rear wheel and it looks bad mounted under the seat. I now understand why they like to mount it in a lower and a more centered place. Under these conditions of mixed usage it went about 16 miles before the battery began to cut out on a grade. The monitor said it was still 1/2 full. It still had pep and I could go farther if I purchased the USB cable and lowered the battery drop out settings. I don't know if this would hurt the Lithium Ion battery. It would damage a lead acid battery. At 30 amps of peek draw I do not want to increase the amps as this would overload the battery.
I have not decided if I want to purchase the USB cable yet.

- very good with one problem Review by Frank Z man
I had one problem. The freewheel would not screw onto the motor assembly. It appears the the cutting tool used to cut the treads on the motor had worn. I used an old free wheel nut and wrenched it on as a cutting tool. It worked and the problem was solved. I was greatly annoyed by this.
The kit came with no directions and I was not sure what to do with the plastic spoke guard. I honed on the hole in it and placed it between the freewheel and the motor. This was a good move and it keeps the chain from slipping over the low gear on the freewheel. I purchased expensive $50 light weight tires, a mistake. I should have added cheep heavy duty tires. By the end of summer I will find out how it goes with a 210 lb man, me. (Posted on 4/12/13)
- good with one problen Review by Frank Znidarsix
The free wheel would not thread on the shaft. The factory bit the honed the shaft appeared to be worn. I took apart another free wheel and used it as a threading tool. I had to drive it on and off with a pipe wrench. I risked ruining the motor but I got the threads cut.
There were no directions. I did not know what to do with the spoke guard. I cut a hole and placed it between the free wheel and the motor. That was a good move.
Once past these problems, it ran great. It has has a little leas power than the 50 CC gas engine. The electric, unlike the gas, delivers power over a wide range of speeds. The electric will climb a 5 percent grade with a little peddling and will not stall out. (Posted on 3/30/13)
