If you're from Hawaii or Alaska, you may have found that very few e-bike retailers or brands will ship e-bikes to Hawaii and Alaska from the US mainland. And this is because shipping ebikes to Hawaii and Alaska can presents unique challenges:
Air shipping regulations for Lithium Batteries: E-bikes by nature all have large Lithium Ion batteries. Unfortunately, shipping of Lithium Ion batteries are regulated by the US department of Transportation (DOT) and have their own Hazardous Material Regulations. Because of this, Lithium Ion Batteries over a certain size cannot be shipped via air shipping. Doing so can be met with huge fines and even criminal charges. E-bikes must be shipped via ocean freight. Bikeberry.com now offers E-bike shipping, via ocean freight to all destinations in Hawaii and Alaska.
Logistical Challenges: Because E-bikes have to be shipped via ocean freight, the logistical coordination is difficult. The E-bike must first be shipped to a freight forwarder for prep and loading of the electric bike into a ocean freight container bound for Hawaii and Alaska. Once arrived to the destination, the coordination of pickup and delivery must be completed by an authorized company. Bikeberry.com, now ships hundreds of E-bikes per year to Hawaii and Alaska, and have made the process seamless. The process typically takes just 7-10 days and is handled entirely by the Bikeberry.com team!
Shipping Costs: If you've ever tried to ship an e-bike from the mainland, on your own, you'll likely find that the cost to do so is prohibitive and can cost you $1000 or more. This is because ocean carriers do not generally accept one unit shipments of ebikes and prefer to work with volume retailers. Because Bikeberry.com ships to these destinations in volume, we are able to get highly discounted prices that we are able to pass on to our customers. We charge only $375 for Special Handling Shipping of our Ebikes to Hawaii or Alaska. The $375 shipping cost is for pick up at the local shipping terminal. If you're unable to pick up at the local terminal, additional fees may apply. *Additional shipping costs may apply to remote delivery locations.
